Waterloo field Target Club Match – Sept 14, 2003

September 14, 2003 Dean

The fall matches always tend to have the possibility of great weather, right on down to darn right miserable.  The forecast was for a chance of rain later in the match and then to progressively get worse.  Well it rained for the first seven or eight lanes and then it was fine.  Go figure.  Shooting in the rain is not so bad if you just shoot as if it is sunny and enjoy the day.  Having your gun well oiled is also important.

The sixty shot course was fairly tough, sporting a Troyer rating of 34.2, with one particular target having an 80 rating.  The kill zone will not have to be repainted on that one.  The scores were still quite good as there was a nice blend of difficulty throughout the course.

At the break, Dennis and I were in a dead heat, having dropped 5 each.  Bert, Magdy and Don were all very close.  Danny and George were also close.  After the break, Don and I both shot well.  Dennis met one lane that dropped his score and others had some late match missed shots that pulled them down.  When the dust (or rain) settled, I had managed to shoot clean in the afternoon and record a 55/60 for first.  Dennis placed second with a 52/60 and Don’s strong showing in the last half landed him third, scoring a 47/50.  James is improving and hitting more and more targets, a trend I am sure will continue.  Joshua did very well for himself on this, his first full match.  Once he gets his own scope back and gets to practice with his gun, more and more targets will fall.

Hans was not feeling well and was unable to attend the match, a first since I have been shooting at Waterloo.  We missed you Hans and all hope you will be fine for the next one.  He is without a doubt the driving force behind field target at Waterloo.

We are looking forward to the October match now, hoping for good weather and lots of shooters to show up for the last full match of the season.  There should be full fall colour by then, which for me always makes this match a treat for the eyes as well as all the great fun of any match.  We may have enough shooters for a spring gun class, so if you are interested, dust off your springer and we’ll boing down some targets.

See you on October 19.  Keep shooting.
