Waterloo Field Target Club Match I – May 15, 2005
It certainly was great to be back shooting again. The weather was not ideal, with cool temperatures and brisk, variable winds, but good enough. There were a couple drops of rain late in the match, but there was hardly enough rain to get through the tree branches and it only lasted a minute or so.
We set up a match of sixty shots in ten lanes and all targets functioned perfectly. The difficulty of the course calculated out to 30.2 on the T-scale, but the cold temperatures and gusting wind made it seem quite difficult. Most missed shots came on the longer lanes where the wind would blow for one shot and then switch for the next shot. With eight shooters starting the match, we divided into four groups of two in order to be a bit quicker and be done before the weather turned for the worse.
Most of the groups shot pretty well straight through, or took a very short break after five lanes. Many shooters started very well, but as the match progressed and it became colder and windier, more missed shots started to appear. The longer shots on the last two lanes that were very exposed to the wind affected everyone.
For the first match of the year the scores were quite good. Personally, I planted two shots in a row on the rim at twelve o’clock after forgetting to change the clicks on the scope and others also mentioned early season errors that lead to missed shots. I guess we are better off getting these errors over with now, as long as we learn from them and do not repeat them.
Noel’s gun show brought out a few people who were very interested in field target and stayed to watch a fair amount of the match and ask questions. We hope they will bring a gun next time and give it a try.
Hopefully June will bring warmer temperatures and more shooters out to the match. I forgot to bring the awards, but I will bring them and present them before the match in June. I hope to see you all on June 12th.
