Waterloo Field Target Club October 16, 2005
It was a great Fall day in Southern Ontario, with intermittent sunshine and lots of wind. The temperature hovered in the upper fourties and a bit of a wind chill made it seem cooler. The leaves were in full colour and for a mid October day, we certainly could not complain.
There was a very wide range in difficulty between lanes and sometimes within lanes. One lane had an average difficulty of sixteen and a couple lanes down the average was just over fourty-eight. With steady wind around fifteen to twenty miles per hour and gusts hitting at least thirty, any let down in concentration ended up showing on the score card.
The five squads of two shooters each drew for lanes and then headed out on the course. It was overcast when we started, but the sun came out during the first hour and helped generate some higher wind velocity. Just what we needed. With the wind, the longer lanes certainly provided the most challenge, but some small kill zones at middle distances were also very tough shots.
I enjoyed one of those days where from the first to last lane the crosshairs stayed dead still where ever I put them and with some luck judging the wind, ended up with the high score for the day. Don and Dennis had a good battle for second and third, with Don one point higher. Mike was right in there just one point down from Dennis for fourth, followed closely by Doug who placed fifth. George had the highest spring gun score, placing sixth overall, and Danny, also shooting a springer, placed seventh. Hans, James and Mark rounded out the scoring. This was Mark’s first match and he shot very well in some difficult conditions. I hope we see Mark as a regular next season.
This was the final full match of the 2005 season. We had higher average attendance this season and the National Match was a great success this year. The challenge will be to continue to grow next season and build on the success we enjoyed. George Harde will be taking over as the match director for next season and will be looking forward to everyone’s cooperation to keep things running smoothly. I would like to thank everyone who took part in any of our matches and especially those that got involved in the work of maintaining the course and setting up matches.
Don’t forget the Christmas match and lunch and keep an eye out for the announcement of the date. See you in December.
*Set up lanes. Thank you!
